Austin Junior High has worked with Battle Mountain’s junior high school to complete a volleyball team for Austin, the Fillies, the “mighty mighty Fillies” as they girls like to refer to themselves.
The team is being coached by Corrie Behimer. The team has four Austin players and four Battle Mountain players to complete the team.
The squad started off the season strong on Sept. 10 playing in the Eureka tournament. Behimer noted her team won all three matches. They beat Eureka by three points, Round Mountain and Battle Mountain by two.
Last Saturday, they played in another tournament beating Round Mountain in the first two games. Austin played against Amargosa Valley, winning the first set, losing the second and winning the third, giving them the win against Amargosa Valley. Coach Behimer said Amargosa brought out their A team, and the Fillies still beat them, as a B team.
Coach Behimer says, part of the reason they won was because of the team spirit the Battle Mountain team had for them. The Battle Mountain Shorthorns came through tremendous support, said Behimer.
Austin is in Tonapah on Saturday and in Battle Mountain on Oct 1.
