Carol Joy Cooney born in Elko, NV on July 5, 1931 to Coral and Tommy Hunter passed on August 29, 2016 at the Vista Adult Care in Sparks, NV.
Carol spent her first few years in Elko and then moved to Lovelock, NV to live with her mother and stepfather Tony Johnson where they raised cattle and alfalfa hay. She attended school at the Fairview School in Upper Valley and Pershing County High School.
Carol married her high school sweetheart James Franklin Cooney in Lovelock on Nov. 3, 1948. They had two children; James Edward Cooney and Cheryl Denise Cooney (Costa).
Carol loved to play piano and organ and gave lessons for many years. She also enjoyed oil painting, arts & crafts, bowling and water skiing. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Pershing Co. General Hospital and belonged to other groups in the Lovelock area. She also enjoyed spending time with family.
Carol worked in several offices including the Pershing Co. District Attorney’s Office. Later, Carol & Frank moved to Winnemucca and then when Frank passed on, Carol moved to Elko to be near family in 2008.
She is survived by brothers Roger Hunter (Dale) of Elko, NV and Richard Hunter (Judy) of Quincy, CA. son – James Edward Cooney (Jerry), daughter – Cheryl Denise Costa (Joe) Grandchildren: James Robert Cooney, Joani Marie Zunino (Larry) Carl Ray Alexander (Kari), Corey Alexander Justin Costa (Jenny), Jana Tobias (Mark) and many great grandchildren.
The Graveside Service is scheduled for 10:30 A.M. at the Big Meadow Cemetery in Lovelock, NV on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016. Our family would like to thank the Sparks Vista Adult Caregivers for the added care they gave to our mother and grandmother during her time with them.
