Lowry cross country runners compete at JV championships

Before heading to Sparks on Friday, for the Northern 3A Regional Championships at Shadow Mountain Sports Complex, a handful of Lowry cross country runners were in Spring Creek last Thursday for the Northeastern Nevada JV Championships.

The Buckaroos boys finished fourth with 101 points. Spring Creek was first with 23 points and West Wendover (48) was second. The only other team to record a score was Jackpot with 68 points.

The Buckaroos’ Brendon Carroll had the top finish for Lowry, placing 25th in a time 23 minutes, 21 seconds. Freshmen Josh Leveille (23:55) finished 26th, Bryan Day (24:01) was 28th and Christopher Esparaza (26:07) placed 30th. Braden Thomas (28:35) and Cody Hawkins (29:42) rounded out the Buckaroo runners.

Jackpot’s Ricardo Miramontes won the race at 18:50, while Elko’s Duncan Monroe was second at 18:57. Spring Creek’s Garrett Kohlman, Wesley Anderson, Terrence Simpson and Logan Allen were third through sixth place.

Freshman Adaya Goldblatt was the lone runner on the girls side for Lowry. She finished 26th in a time of 29:35. Goldblatt was only one of two runners in the race that was not from Elko or Spring Creek.

Spring Creek’s Taylor DuPea won the race at 23:09 and Elko’s Kady Allen was second.

Elko won the team title with 22 points and Spring Creek was second at 37.

Lowry travels to Sparks on Friday for the Northern 3A Regional Championships. The boys race is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. and the girls will run at 12:35.

The top three teams qualify for the Division I-A State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Las Vegas. The top five individual finishers on non-qualifying teams advance to the state meet as well.
