Lowry cross country team finishes regular season at Elko Invitational

The Lowry High School cross country team competed in its last regular season race last week in Elko, in preparation for the Northern 3A Regional Championships in Sparks

The Buckaroos made a short trip east on Interstate 80 last Thursday to compete in the Elko Invitational.

Sophomore Becca Kuskie led the Lowry girls, finishing third with a time of 20 minutes, 50 seconds. That was 19 seconds quicker than her time last year, Kuskie looks to have another good opportunity to advance tho the state championships next week.

Elko’s Kacie Bell won the race with a time of 19:27 and Spring Creek and the next four finishers.

The Lady Bucks had two others run, with Makayla Leveille finishing 13th at 22:43 and fellow freshman Adaya Goldblatt was 45th in a time of 26:43.

Spring Creek claimed the team title with 20 points, Elko was second at 41 and Wells (87) and Lincoln County (102) were third and fourth, respectively.

The Buckaroo boys placed fifth with 131 points, while Spring Creek took home first as well with 38 points. Elko was second at 64 and Mountain Home (74) and West Wendover (109), were third and fourth, respectively. Lincoln County (142) placed sixth.

Will Kracaw led the way for the Lowry boys, finishing fifth in a time of 17:35. Spring Creek’s William Fallini-Haas beat out Elko’s Alex Klekas for the individual title. Fallini-Haas stopped the clock at 16:44, while Klekas was at 17:05. Spring Creek’s Cole Campbell and the 2015 winner was third at 17:05.09.

Senior Chanse McAllister was 22nd in a time of 19:06, while sophomores Jacob Means (19:54) and Mark Henderson (20:00) were 37th and 38th, respectively. The time for Henderson was a personal best.

Christopher Kearns placed 41st at 20:09, Caden Rorex finished 45th with a time of 20:42, Joe Gildone placed 48th at 20:51 and Josh Leveille (21:36) was 56th.

Bryan Day finished 65th in a time of 22:38, Brendon Carroll was 68th at 22:50, Christopher Esparaza was 75th in a time of 24:23 and Braden Thomas (26:51), Cody Hawkins (28:30) and Jordan Lords (29:08) all set personal best times.

The Buckaroos travel to Spring Creek Thursday for the Northeastern Nevada JV championships.

Lowry will race at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks on Friday, Oct. 28, at the Northern 3A Regional Championships. The boys run at 10:30 a.m. and the girls start at 12:35 p.m.

The top three teams advance to the state championships at Craig Ranch Park in Las Vegas on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The top five individuals on non-qualifying teams advance to the state championships as well.
