MOHALL – Timothy Lyle Newgard, 57, Bismarck, N.D., formerly of Mohall, N.D., died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at a Bismarck hospital.
He was born Sept. 9, 1959, in Fargo, N.D. He was raised in Mohall and graduated from Mohall High School in 1977. He served with the 14th Maintenance Company in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1980.
Tim married Anita Lunde July 2, 1982, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall. He attended the North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, N.D., and received an associate of applied science degree in diesel technology.
They made their home in Battle Mountain, Nev., for 28 years. While in Nevada, he worked for several gold mining companies: Brown & Root, Echo Bay, Barrick Goldstrike, and Small Mine Development. He started out as a diesel mechanic and worked his way up the ranks to Maintenance Superintendent of the mine site.
Tim and Anita moved to Bismarck in 2014 where Anita retired and Tim worked at RDO Equipment in Bismarck until the time of his death.
In his life, Tim coached soccer, baseball and was a member of both men’s and mixed league bowling teams. He enjoyed outdoor activities including motorcycle riding, jet skiing, boating and camping. He was a true “Tim the Tool Man.”
He was very creative and loved to build and remodel things whether it was mechanical or working on his new home. Tim will be remembered as a family man: everything he did, he did for his family.
Survived by: wife, Anita Newgard, Bismarck; son, Tyler Newgard, Bismarck; daughter, Alyssa (Jason) Maas, McClusky, N.D.; grandson, Jax Maas; siblings, Dave Newgard, Tolley, N.D., Bruce Newgard, Altoona, Pa., Mark (Reita) Newgard, Fernley, Nev., Brenda (Frannie) Hall, Mohall, D.J. Newgard, Colusa, Calif.; aunts, Mardelle (Joe) Schock, Velva, N.D., Eva Lyn Jensen, Las Vegas, Nev.; uncles, Thomas (Patricia) Newgard, Moorhead, Minn., Wally Jensen, Kenmare, N.D.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tim was preceded in death by: his parents, Dennis and Marlene Newgard; grandparents, Fritz and Katie Weber, John and Margaret Thomas; sister-in-law, Laurie Newgard; uncles, Jerry Jensen, Myron Jensen, Wayne Newgard; and father- and mother-in-law, Art and Lila Lunde. Funeral: 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall. Burial: Renville Township Cemetery, rural Mohall.
A Celebration of Life in memory of Tim will be held at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at the family home, 5830 Olive Tree Drive, Bismarck, ND 58503-9315.
