Obituary: Samuel Sandoval

Samuel Sandoval, 86, passed away after a struggle with heart failure on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at his home in Battle Mountain, Nevada.

Sam who was known to many friends as “Ski Cat” was born on April 30, 1930, the 4th of seven children of Trinidad Sandoval and Martina Reyes of San Ramon, California.

Sam married his wife Sylvia Robles on October 28, 1950 in Carson City, Nevada and moved to Lovelock in 1954. Sam and Sylvia had Seven Spanish Angels, (children) who they were very proud of.

As a young man, Sam worked on the Hay Press as the Lever Operator then was self-employed for over 50 years, in the Trucking, Exploration and Reclamation Industries.

Sam proved hard work and common sense is how he was successful in life and had a famous saying,

“We may not be the Best, but there are none better”.

Sam loved his Coffee Crew, who met at the Nevada Hotel, had quite the stories to tell each other and had many laughs over them.

Sam sang and played the harmonica, loved to garden and take care of his property on Hilltop. He also loved hunting with his “Three Amigos”, Rick Ricketts, Emery and Jack Simons. Sam was quite a prospector and loved racing and his favorite show on television was Gold Rush.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Trinidad and Martina Sandoval

Sam is also preceded in death by his best friend, Changus, his Beer Drinking dog.

Sam is survived by his wife Sylvia Sandoval of Battle Mountain, Nevada; Bothers David, Elias, Daniel and Moses and Sisters Rebecca and Eva all of California.

Seven children: Linda Gierhart of Reno, Nevada; Terri (Ken) Carson of Battle Mountain; Earl (Lura) Sandoval of Battle Mountain; Brenda (Steve) Runestrand of Battle Mountain; Elaine Sandoval of Battle Mountain; Sam Sandoval of Elko, Nevada and Julio (Crystal) Sandoval of Reno, Nevada.

Sam is also survived by his 20 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.

Sam will be loved and missed and never forgotten.

A Potluck, Celebration of Life, will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Battle Mountain Civic Center, 625 S Broad Street at 1:00 p.m.
