One could not blame the Lowry High School cross country team for tired legs. The Buckaroos ran in their third race in seven days at the Fernley Roadhill Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The Buckaroos boys were led by a runner-up finish by Will Kracaw and the team finished fifth with 133 points. Kracaw, a sophomore, stopped the clock at 19 minutes, 9 seconds. Dayton’s Jonathan Ply won the race at 18:46.

Fernley took home the team title on its home course with 65 points. McQueen was second at 97 and Dayton (105) and Wooster (132) were third and fourth, respectively.

“The times were a little slower, but this was the third time we have ran in seven days,” said LHS coach Kathy Norcutt. “In a sense you can use it as a training day. I was pleased with Will. He ran a great race.”

Chanse McAllister continued his strong senior campaign and finished 18th in a time of 21:09. Christopher Kearns was not far behind in 29th at 21:27.

Five Lowry runners were within 30 seconds of each other, with Mark Henderson setting a personal best time of 22:25 to place 44th. Jacob Means (22:36) and Gavin Ziemer (22:39) were 47th and 48th, respectively. Caden Rorex finished 50th at 22:41 and Joe Gildone (22:55) had a time of 22:55.

On the girls side, Becca Kuskie finished fourth in a time of 23:11. Wooster’s Gillian Ipsen won with a time of 22:23. Fernley’s Grace DeLeon (22:41) and Piper Cook (22:54) were second and third. Norcutt added that Kuskie took a wrong turn near the end of the race and had to back track, but was still able to place in the top five.

Makayla Leveille was 21st in a time of 27:52 and teammate Savannah Rorex was one second behind in 22nd. Adaya Goldblatt was 58th in a time of 34:13.

Lowry did not have enough runners for a team score, which Fernley won with 43 points. Wooster was second at 62 and Reed (84) was third. McQueen (101) and North Valleys (124) rounded out the top five.
