Four Buckaroo football players selected to Northern 3A all-league honorable mention team

Lowry High School had four players named to the Northern 3A all-league team for their play during the fall. The selections are made by the league’s 10 coaches.

Victor Rosas, Bryan Terry, Michael Rangel and Brady Lange were all named to the honorable mention team. Rosas was selected as a running back, Terry (offensive line), Rangel (linebacker) and Lange (cornerback). The Buckaroos were 1-8 for the second consecutive season.

Thee top honors in the league were shared by Spring Creek, Truckee and Elko. Spring Creek lost the 3A state championship to Desert Pines last weekend in Las Vegas.

Spring Creek quarterback Jon Jund was the Player of the Year, while his father Joel Jund was selected as the Coach of the Year.

Truckee’s Cole Harrity was the Offensive Player of the Year, and teammate Wulfe Retzlaff was the Defensive Player of the Year. Elko’s Luis Salazar was selected as the Lineman of the Year.

The Northern 3A first team offense included, Tommy Cefalu (South Tahoe) at quarterback; Cade Vercellotti (Churchill County), Jacob Bernal (South Tahoe) and Retzlaff (Truckee) at running back. Dakota Larson (Spring Creek), McCallan Castles (South Tahoe) and Noah Jackson (South Tahoe) were the wide receivers. Kyren (Elko) was chosen at tight end and Jason Painter (Spring Creek) at athlete.

The offensive line was rounded out by Hunter Nobbs (Sparks), Talalemotu Mauga (Churchill County), Dylan Kite (Spring Creek), Jorge Bravo (Truckee) and Karson Thomas (Wooster).

Sparks’ Carlos Rodriguez was chosen as the return specialist. Jackson and Rodriguez shared the kicking honors and Wooster’s Romeo Okorie was the first-team punter.

The first team defense was made of lineman Mauga (Churchill County), Tyler Menees (Wooster), Orlander Simms (Truckee) and Maxwell Schweitzer (South Tahoe) County). The linebackers were Sheldon Wilkinson (Spring Creek), Romeo Okorie (Wooster), Brock Uptain (Churchill County and Gabriel Bueno (South Tahoe).

Matt Cain (South Tahoe) and Tyler Davis (Truckee) were chosen at cornerback and Harrity (Truckee) and Dylan Gooding (South Tahoe) were the safties.

The second-team offense included Connor Nelson (Churchill County), Hunter O’Meara (Sparks), Wilkinson (Spring Creek), Okorie (Wooster), Uptain (Churchill County), Jesse Schmitt (Dayton), Zen Contestable (South Tahoe), Lorenzo Arroyo (Fernley), A.C. Reyes (Fernley), Joey Sheppard (Fernley), Anthony Wolfe (South Tahoe), Jayme Nelson Truckee), Dakota Hill (Wooster), Brennan Reese (Spring Creek) and Robert Cage (South Tahoe).

The second team defense included Cameron peck (Elko), Trevor Basaraba (Elko), Kyrin Allen (Elko), Patrick Leedy (Spring Creek), Xavier Edson (Spring Creek), Quinn Cottel (Truckee), Michael Doughty (Truckee), O’Meara (Sparks), Andrew Marble (Wooster), Tyler Dennis (Fernley) and Jack Swisher and Dalton Kaady of Churchill County.

Okorie was the second-team punter, Allen was the return specialist and Dayton’s Tyler Chandler was the punter.

The honorable mention squad on offense was made up of Payton Galli (South Tahoe), Willy Pritchard (Fernley), CJ Wilhite (Dayton), Liane Kema (Spring Creek). Tyler Chandler (Dayton). Brian Torres (South Tahoe), Troy Olsen (Dayton), Penioni Otuafi (Churchill County), Meneers (Wooster), Jesus Diaz (Truckee), Jaime Parisi (Truckee), Jaden Commendatore (Truckee) and Allan Valley-Monroy (Wooster).

The dense was rounded out by Nobbs (Sparks), Hill (Wooster), Arroyo (Fernley), Schmitt (Dayton), Justin Waters (Wooster), Tyler Ritter (South Tahoe), Alex Malcom (Wooster), Jack Englert (Truckee), Gabe Richards (Fernley), Harry McDonald (Fernley) and Thomas (Wooster).
