Obituary: Stacy Jo Hostman

Stacy Jo Hostman, 55, lost her courageous battle with ovarian cancer during the early morning of Sunday, November 13th, 2016. Stacy was born January 9th, 1961 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to a loving birth mom who selflessly gave her up for adoption. Dr. Fred W and Marie Esther Heaton eagerly welcomed the sweet dimple-cheeked baby into their home and named her Stacy Jo.

Stacy grew up in Albuquerque, the middle of 5 children. Her childhood years were filled with cousins, friends, fun, and laughter. After high school she attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. While there she received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development but more importantly, it was there that she met her eternal companion, Mark Randall Hostman. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple on May 21st, 1982. After Mark completed his schooling in Rexburg, Stacy began a new journey as she joined him on his family farm in Lovelock. The city girl moved to the country and thus began many years of new adventures for her. They joyfully welcomed four daughters and Stacy loved her house full of Barbies, giggles and hormones. During her years in Lovelock, while tackling raising her daughters, Stacy enjoyed broadening her horizons. She held a number of jobs, including: working for her dear friends at Story Video, driving school bus, providing home health care, teaching ESL and looking after countless babies and children who were always seen in her eyes as more than just “babysitting” and were loved dearly by her. As her daughters grew older the door of Stacy’s house, the “Hostman Home”, was always open for all and she enjoyed people gathering there.

Stacy was actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her community. She served in numerous callings for her church, from an early morning Seminary Teacher to most recently serving in the Young Woman program. Stacy loved to sing and loved the time she spent with her community choir. She was known for her bright, cheery, dimpled smiles; love of laughter; sarcastic jokes and her love of serving any and all she could. Once she became acquainted with farm life, Stacy developed a love of cows and farm décor. She could always be made happy with a cute cow statue. She loved to cook, and often cooked for an army (even if one wasn’t present). Anything with green chili made her happy and brought out her love of her home state. She had a love of classic movies, particularly old black and whites, which she passed on to her daughters. One of her most recent adventures was becoming the chicken lady with her 11 hens.  She treasured being able to sneak away with her husband and attend the Reno Temple as often as possible. Stacy cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. They were her reason for everything she did from the moment she first became a grandma. She is survived by her eternal sweetheart, Mark; her four daughters: Erin (Jason), Chelsea (Jon), Torrie, Kali (Jonathan); 11 grandchildren- Jonny, Shamus, Emma, Jax, Riley, Mason, Kloe, Hazel, Charley, Lewis and Edith. She is also survived by her mother, Marie Heaton; her siblings, sister (Lisa) and three brothers (Tim, Lance and Ryan) along with their spouses; in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and her four-legged son, Ranger. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred W Heaton. Funeral services were held Friday, November 18th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 220 Maple Drive, Lovelock, Nevada at 11am. A viewing was held before the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Throughout her short 6-month battle with ovarian cancer, Stacy became a champion for ovarian cancer awareness. And, as typical of her, found more members to add to her “family” at the Renown Cancer Center. Donations can be made in her name to the Reno Cancer Foundation, 1155 Mill Street, Reno, NV 89502.
