Winnemucca Junior High boys basketball season underway

The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh and eighth-grade boys basketball teams have started their season, with games beginning this weekend.

The Warriors opened their season on Friday in Carson City for a pair of games. Winnemucca is in McDermitt Saturday (today) for Tri- County play at 9 a.m.

Winnemucca hosts Fallon on Friday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. and is back on the road on Saturday, Nov. 19, in Lovelock to continue Tri-County action. The Warriors make the return trip to Fallon on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 3:30 p.m.

After the Thanksgiving break, Winnemucca hosts the Tri-County on Saturday, Dec. 3 and the Tri-County championship will be Saturday, Dec. 10, in McDermitt at 9 a.m..

The eighth-grade team is coached by Chad Backus and includes Anthony Gildone, Sam Roth, Jacob Solis, Ruben Diaz, Daniel Fernandez, Anthony Hemp, Alex Ruiz, Christian Cuevas, Tristen Schmittel, Anthony Peterson. J.J. Backus, Rian DeLong and Alberto Medina. The managers are Colton Von Aspern and Sean Herrera.

The seventh-grade squad is coached by Clay Sagers and includes Giovani Sapien, Wyatte Sakurada, Ayden Katzenmeyer, Andrew Harmon, Hunter Smith, Ismael Magana, Enoc Gaitan, Jesse Acevedo, Zach Fernandez, Cal peters, Kaiden Boyles, Iysis Arriola, Justen Sherburn and Salvador Contreras.
