I attended the recent 4-H livestock auction and was impressed with both the quality and quantity of animals as well as bidders who spent large amounts of money to support these young people in future endeavors.
One way many locals and businesses help these youngsters financially is to add money to the sales price. Most times these added dollars are between $25 — $100.
You can imagine many peoples surprise when Humboldt General Hospital added $1000 to some of the 4-H member’s sale price.
When I look at my tax bill I see I pay taxes to the Hospital. Since my wife and I support the sale individually I am curious as to how Humboldt General Hospital can spend my tax money on non-hospital related expenses. I also understand HGH donates to other activities and sponsors golf tournaments. I question if this is an allowable expenditure of tax money under State law.
Perhaps if the Hospital administrative personnel (Parish, Songer, Mendiola, Bell, and Maher) and others who receive big salaries wish to donate they could well afford to do it individually as the rest of us do.
Respectfully,
Don Jones
