Lowry High School sophomores Becca Kuskie and Will Kracaw qualified for the NIAA 3A State Cross Country Championships to be held Saturday at Craig Ranch Regional Park in Las Vegas.
Kuskie finished 17th at the Northern 3A Regional Championships this past Saturday at Shadow Mountain Sports Complex in Sparks.
Kuskie had a time of 22 minutes, 14 seconds in cold and rainy conditions, and it was good enough to qualify her for the state championship as an individual
The Lowry girls did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score. Freshman Makayla Leveille was the only other Lady Buckaroo to run and she was 29th in a time of 23:37.
Spring Creek sophomore Rylie Lusk won the individual title in a time of 20:20. Truckee’s Brenna Wapstra-Scott was second at 20:26 and Elko’s Kacie Bell (20:29) was third. Truckee’s Isabella Terrazas (20:40) and Carrie Bradley (20:56) rounded out the top five.
Spring Creek won the team championship by the narrowest of margins over Truckee. The Spartans led the way with 38 points and the Wolverines were second at 39.
South Tahoe was third with 62 points and the final team to qualify for the state championships as a team. Elko (90), Fernley (113) and Churchill County (189) rounded out the team scores.
On the boys side, Kracaw was eighth overall in a time of 18:33 to advance to his first state championship.
Chanse McAllister was 37th in his final high school race with a time of 20:35, while sophomore Mark Henderson was 44th at 21:16.
Fellow teammate and sophomore Jacob Means was 45th at 21:30. Christopher Kearns finished 47th at 21:44, Joe Gildone placed 49th in a time of 22:01 and Caden Rorex (22:16) was 52nd at 22:16.
The Buckaroo boys finished seventh as a team with 178 points. Spring Creek won the title with 43 points, Elko was second at 58 and Truckee (64) was third. All three teams will take part in the state meet.
Dayton (117) finished fourth and South Tahoe (124) and Fernley (143) were fifth and sixth, respectively.
Spring Creek junior William Fallini-Haas won the individual title in a time of 17:27. Elko’s Alex Klekas was second at 17:43 and Spring Creek’s Cole Campbell (17:46) was third. Dayton’s Jonathan Ply (17:47) and Truckee’s Ian Smith Bradley (17:58) rounded out the top five.
Kracaw will run his race at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and Kuskie will run at 12:40 p.m.
