The BMHS track team traveled to Winnemucca to compete in the Lowry Invitational on Saturday, April 30.
The boys team finished the day with 80 points and the girls earned 6th place with 26 points. The team recorded nine career bests, five of them in the 200 despite brutal weather conditions.
The Longhorns individual medalists today consisted of the senior boys Andrew Cox, DJ Potter, and Regan Knight. These three earned a total of 51.50 of the teams 80 total points today.
“These three continue to be solid force for our team through their efforts,” said BMHS coach Stephanie Potter..
Cox continued to be solid in all of his events by placing in all four. He earned a silver medal in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 8 inches. Cox earned another silver medal in the 400 meters with a time of 53.89 seconds. He was third in the triple jump with a distance of 36-4, four inches behind Knight. He finished the day in by running a career-best time in the 200 meters at 24.16 to place sixth.
“Andrew continues to be a strong leader in the jumps and sprints,” Potter said.
Potter showed he will be a strong contender in the throwing events. He earned a silver medal in the discus with a throw of 119-3”. He captured a bronze medal in the shot put with a distance of 42-4.
Knight continues to be a surprise in the triple jump, earning a silver medal with a jump of 36-8. He was sixth in the discus with a toss of 100-10. Knight finished the day running in the fourth-place 4x100 relay.
The girls 4x400 relay of Skotti Torrence, Paige Ripley, Alexa Goddard, and Cheyenne Brock earned a bronze medal with a time of 6:00.81.
Brock, a freshman, ran a career-best time of 63.70 in the 300-meter hurdles to finish fourth. She jumped 4-0 in the high jump and she ended the day by running in the bronze medal 4x400 relay and the fourth-place 4x800 relay. Potter added she continues to be a solid runner in the relays. The boys 4x100 relay of Alec Liebhardt, Knight, Cameron Thompson and Austin Wilkins were fourth with a time of 50.37. The boys 4x200 relay of David Chavez, Saul Miramontes, DeAndre Powell and Austin Wilkins finished fourth in a time of 1:43.84.
The girls 4x200 relay of Justine Jury, Skotti Torrence, Paige Ripley and Liliana Chavez ran 2:14.55 to finish fourth. The girls 4x800 relay of Lizzi Sadler, Torrence, Goddard and Brock ran to a fourth-place finish in a time of 14:26.28.
Powell earned a fifth-place honors in the 400 meters with a career-best time of 56.88. The boys 4x400 relay of Alec Liebhardt, Miramontes, Powell and Tristin Cordingley were fifth with a time of 4:18.98. The girls 4x100 relay of Ren Avedician, Samantha Broadway, Jury and Liliana Chavez were also fifth at 61.89.
Thompson continued to place in his two main events. He was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.81. He was seventh in the pole vault with a height of 8-6. Thompson finished the day by running in the fourth-place 4x100 relay.
“Cameron has a chance to place in his events at zone with his hard work the next few weeks,” said the coach.
Cordingley again placed in both hurdle events. He finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 22.58. He crossed the line in seventh behind teammate Thompson in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.30.
“Tristian is showing great promise as a freshman in these events,” Potter said.
Liebhardt place seventh in the long jump with a leap of 1611. He also ran in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.42. Liebhardt was a part of the fourth-place 4x100 and the fifth-place 4x400 relay. The coach added he continues to work hard to try to improve each week.
Liliana Chavez finished eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 27-3. She also had a distance of 11-10 in the long jump. Chavez finished the day running in the fourth-place 4x200 relay and the fifth-place 4x100 relay.
“Liliana has been a great surprise as a freshman and we will see if she can place at zone in one or both of the jumps this week,” Potter said.
In other performances, Avedician threw the shot put 25-6 and discus 74-6, Cooper Burkhart had throw of 35-0.50 (shot put) and Daniel Tovar tossed the shot put 31-7 and discus 92-7.
Sadler ran the 800 meters in a time of 3:31.21 and the 1,600 meters at 8:11.86, David Chavez had times of 12.55 (100 meters) and 24.64 (200 meters) and Jury stopped the clock at 15.88 to go with a mark of 4-0 in the high jump.
Wilkins posted times of 12.63 (100 meters) and 25.49 (200 meters), Ryan Manning ran the 800 meters at 3:02.03, 1,600 meters in 6:59.84 and had a mark of 7-0 in the pole vault and Maddie Wahrenburg ran the 200 meters at 37.23 and 400 in 94.77.
Esma Cheno had a throw of 20-8.50 in the shot put and 69-4 in the discus. Broadway tossed the discus 62-8 and the shot put 18-11 and Miramontes had a time of 27.48 in the 200 meters.
Torrence had a time of 3:26.97 in the 1,600 meters, which was career-best by 16 seconds. Goddard had a time of 85.10 in the 400 meters to go with a mark of 4-0 in the high jump, Eddie Morfin threw the shot put 35-3 and Hailey Goodman had a time of 35.31 in the 200 meters and 89.68 in the 400 meters.
Amezcua had a leap of 10-0 in the long jump and a time of 16.18 in the 100 meters and Paige Ripley ran the 200 meters at 32.63 and the 400 meters in 81.13.
