Obituary: Ronald Jay Sorenson

Ronald Jay Sorenson, beloved father, grandfather and friend died Sunday, May 1, 2016 at his home in Winnemucca, Nevada. He was 54. He was born October 8, 1961 in Newcastle Wyoming to Clifford Martin Sorenson and Helen Rihanek Sorenson. He married Patricia (Patsy) Diane Trujillo May 27, 1982.

After they were married, they lived in Sheridan, Wyoming for five years before Ron transferred to Winnemucca in 1987 with Buckley Powder to assume the role of Branch Manager. He worked for them for 25 years, after which time he drove truck for various companies.

He and Patsy were members of Zion Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He coached youth wrestling for many years and loved to coach and watch his sons wrestle. Years later, he loved helping and watching his grandson, Pete, wrestle. He enjoyed watching his granddaughters’ Hadlee and Maite play their softball games. He loved his home town in Wyoming and he and his family enjoyed many trips there over the years.

Ron is survived by his wife Patsy, his daughter, Nicole (Isaac) Bengochea, his sons Adam (Kayhlin) Sorenson, and Jacob (Eloise) Sorenson. He is also survived by his wife’s parents, Edward and Mary Trujillo. His own parents died when he was young, and he was very close to his wife’s parents, who treated him like their own son. Brothers Clifford “Marty” Sorenson and his wife, Bonnie, Jim Trujillo, Nobert “Bo”Trujillo and his wife Carolyn, Edward (Sharon) Trujillo. Sisters, Peggy (Gary) Stanton, Connie (Wayne) Haugen, Corrine (Mike) Kennedy, Teresa (George) Sherard, Virginia (Rick) Coleman, Annette Trujillo and Mel McKinzie. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Helen Sorenson, his grandparents Christian and Arthela Sorenson, and Alfred and Sophia Rihanek. There was a memorial service held in Winnemucca on Saturday, May 7, 2016 and there will be a burial service in Sheridan, Wyoming Saturday, May 14, 2016
