Battle Mountain golfers take to the course in Wells

Longhorns have three players break 100

With the regular season quickly coming to an end, the Battle Mountain High School boys golf team was back on the road last Thursday.

The Longhorns made the short trip to Wells to Chimney Creek Golf Course. Battle Mountain carded a total of 506, as three players broke 100 on the day.

Alan Rangel led the way with a round of 93, while Austin Wallock shot 97 and Alex Lopez 98. Brody Young finished with a 105 and Noah Villanueva had the final kept score at 113. Jacob Turner shot a 140.

Battle Mountain travels to Spring Creek on Thursday for its final regular season tournament of the year. The Division III North Regional Championships will take place on Thursday, May 12, at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline. The top three teams and the top five individuals on non-qualifying teams advance to the state championships.

The Division III State Championships will take place on Tuesday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 18, inn Pahrump.

“It has been a strange season,” said BMHS head coach Roger Wallock. “Every week someone shoots their season best but then others have a bad day. We haven’t been able to get everyone playing their best on the same day. Hopefully, that will happen at the regional tournament. Meanwhile, we continue to work on the little things that might save us a few shots here and there.”
