Obituary: Patricia Jeanette Sheppard Allred

July 10, 1931 — April 27, 2016

Patricia Jeanette Sheppard Allred of Winnemucca, Nevada, beloved wife of Meade W. Allred, passed away April 27, 2016, in Boise, Idaho. She was born July 10, 1931, in Gridley, California, to Osborne Lionel and Elizabeth (Bessie) Sheppard.

When Pat was 8 years old, her family moved to Unionville, Nevada, where they lived and ran two ranches. She learned to ride a horse while very young and spent her childhood working long, hard hours with her siblings and father. She and her siblings attended the one-room school in Unionville until they entered high school. As a child she would often go on horseback to this school, and as a teenager she excelled at barrel racing. She graduated from Pershing County High School in Lovelock, NV and went on to attend one year of business school in Reno.

She married the love of her life, Meade Allred, on May 13, 1950. In quiet conversations, she has related to family that she knew from the first moment she saw Meade that she would one day marry him. They raised three children in Lovelock and Winnemucca, in a house that Meade built for the family, and that was pink to suit Pat’s love of pretty colors. While raising her children, Pat was a bookkeeper for several local businesses, including Tallman Lumber and Model Dairy.

Pat had a rich life, and most enjoyed visiting with family and friends, telling stories of her childhood and enjoying a good, hearty laugh. She was famous for her cooking and baking, having a special understanding of how delicious food, made from the heart, connects us to each other and shows love to the one receiving. She was always making cakes for friends on their birthdays, and never forgot a birthday or anniversary of all those dear to her. Some of her most well-known cakes include Texas Sheet Cake, Red Velvet, German Chocolate and Bumble Cake. She also made a delicious walnut brownie. Whenever there was a family gathering or visitors to her home, she would make the most wonderful home-style meal, such as her chicken cordon bleu, homemade applesauce, and homemade macaroni and cheese, filling her loved ones’ stomachs and hearts at the same time.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her so much pleasure. She enjoyed tending them and playing with them, telling stories, writing letters, and calling them, far into their adult years.

Another of Pat’s great loves was roses. She happily ordered new ones each year, and Meade would tend them. She loved the scent and beauty of many varieties of roses, and her house was always adorned with fresh flowers from their gardens. Their yard has for years been a joy for anyone driving by.

Pat is survived by her eternal partner, Meade; her children, Keith W. (Cheri) Allred, Kirk S. Allred, Jessie Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Quinn (Amber) Westmoreland, Kelly (Kaori) Westmoreland, Hayley (John) Hiibel, Summer (Eric) Warden, Jake Allred, Kristen (Perry) Ridge, Ryan (Kellie) Allred, Megan (Mark) Grant, and Jeffery Allred. Her great-grandchildren are Kaden, Colin, and Landon Westmoreland; Stephanie (Mike) Hoye and Cynthia Hoyt; Vaughn, Micah, Noah, Jonah, and Shiloh Hiibel; Laurelin and Meade Warden; William, Sean, Annabelle, Truman, and Ebenezer Allred; Shaelynn, Grace, Caroline, Nathaniel, and Natalie Ridge, and Vivian, Roger, and soon-to-be born baby boy Grant.

She is also survived by her great-great-grandchildren Isla and Oliver Hoye, her brother T.G. (Elaine) Sheppard, and sister Helen (Steve) Wineman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, O.L. and Bessie Sheppard, sisters Peggy Evers and Louise Dennis, nephews Terry Sheppard and Russell Maher, and great-niece Jennifer Maynick.

Pat’s service will be held Friday, May 6th, at the LDS Winnemucca Stake Center, 111 McArthur Avenue. The viewing will be held at 10:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. The burial will take place at the Winnemucca Cemetery after the service. A luncheon will be provided following the graveside service, also at the stake center. All friends and family are invited to join there to celebrate Pat’s life and share memories.
