Not to be outdone by the four straight championships won by the Battle Mountain High School Wrestling Team, the Battle Mountain Junior High wrestlers won their fifth consecutive Tah-Neva League Title, capping an impressive season that saw them win every tournament they entered.
Battle Mountain ran away from the rest of the 18 team field at the Tah-Neva Championships, held Saturday, March 26 in Fallon. The Shorthorns won by 46.5 points ahead of second place Yerington.
Fernley, Winnemucca and Fallon rounded out the top five teams.
“This was a great way to end our season. These kids have all worked so hard everyday, and it showed today,” commented Coach Mitch Domagala.
Leading the herd was Stone Whitlock, Jose Guizar (undefeated on the season), Thomas Cardinal and Lyle Whitten, each of whom finished in first place to win their first league championships.
Declan McClary, Michael Malone, Jordan Gonzalez, Thomas Amezcua, Kobe Lake and Owen Oakes took runner-up honors in second place.
Zach Duggan ended the day in third place, while Sean Scherer, Hunter Natoli and Terrance Fetterly came home with fourth place medals.
Also wrestling were Daniel Henslee, Brice Domagala and Joey Huhta.
