RENO — The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada invites you to call (202) 716-9418 to make an appointment to have a FREE smoke alarm installed in your home. All smoke alarm installations in Nevada are completely free of charge.
“These devices have been proven to save lives,” said Red Cross Executive Director Zanny Marsh. “You have less than 2 minutes to escape a home fire. Having working smoke alarms is an important step in keeping yourself and your loved ones at home safe.”
This offer is open to all residents of Northern Nevada and not just the Reno-Sparks area. Residents of Elko, Winnemucca, Carson City, and Ely can also call the Red Cross of Northern Nevada at (202) 716-9418 to make an appointment to have a FREE smoke alarm installed.
“Every home in our community should have a working smoke alarm on every floor of their home,” said Executive Director Zanny Marsh. “We want everyone in Northern Nevada to have a smoke alarm because, during a home fire, everyone deserves a chance to get out alive.”
The Red Cross will be installing smoke alarms throughout the Reno area as part of the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign which aims to reduce injuries and fatalities from home fires by 25 percent. In addition to installing smoke alarms, volunteers will be distributing safety tips on home fire prevention and a family escape plan.
On average in Northern Nevada, the American Red Cross responds to a home fire every four days. Visit http://www.redcross.org/northernnevada for more information on how to support our campaign or volunteer to install smoke alarms.
