Longhorns take two games from Wells in non-league play

Battle Mountain travels to Yerington this weekend

The Battle Mountain High School baseball team got back on the winning track with a doubleheader sweep of Wells this past Friday.

The Longhorns won the opener 10-9 and cruised to a 25-6 victory in the nightcap to improve to 4-2 on the season.

The opener proved to be a wild one with scoring in just about every inning. The Longhorns plated single runs in each of the first three innings. Wells countered with a single run in the first and two each in the second and third innings to lead 5-3.

Battle Mountain closed the gap to 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning, only to see the Leopards answer with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to go back in front 9-4. However, that was all the offense for the Leopards.

After scoring once in the top of the sixth inning, the Longhorns finished the rally with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the win.

Battle Mountain scored six runs in the fourth inning and 11 in the fifth to win by the 10-run mercy rule.
