Lady Longhorns drop two non-league games to Leopards

BMHS record even at 4-4

The Battle Mountain High School softball team found it tough going last Friday in Wells. The Lady Bucks dropped a doubleheader to the Leopards, falling 11-5 and 13-6 to even their record at 4-4 on the season.



Wells rallies to win game one

Battle Mountain scored single runs in each of the first three innings to go in front 3-1. Wells tied the contest with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning and took its first lead after scoring twice more in the bottom of the fourth.

The Longhorns tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 5-5, when the Leopards answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to notch the victory.

Kylie Sondermann paced the hitting attack going 3-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored. Marissa Rogers added two hits and two RBIs and Kali Kester also had two hits to go with a RBI and run scored. McKenna Jones Isabella DeAllah and Yulisa Vazquez had one hit apiece.

Sondermann suffered the loss in the circle, as she allowed 12 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits. She walked four and struck out three.



BMHS falls short in night cap

Wells used three runs in each of the first two inning to lead 6-0 and never looked back in finishing the sweep. Battle Mountain scored twice in the third inning and once in the fourth but Wells bounced back with three runs of its own to keep the advantage at 9-3.

The Lady Longhorns closed the gap to 9-5 in the top of the sixth inning but got no closer as the Leopards countered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Kester, Sondermann and Rogers each had two hots. Alma Chavez, DeAllah and Vazquez had one hit apiece. Sondermann had two of the four RBIs for Battle Mountain.

Jones started and took the loss in 3.2 innings of work. She gave up nine runs (eight earned) on six hits. She struck out two batters. Sondermann finished the final 2.1 innings and allowed four runs (none earned) on two hits. She also had two strikeouts.

Battle Mountain begins Division III North play on the road at Yerington this weekend. The first game is Friday at 4 p.m. and a doubleheader follows on Saturday at 11 a.m.
