Battle Mountain golfers take to the course in Elko

Rangel leads Longhorns with 93

The Battle Mountain High School boys golf team got its first official round of 18 holes under its belt on Wednesday, March 15, at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko.

West Wendover was one of two teams to break 500 on the day, and it won the tournament with a 486. White Pine was second at 491.

The JV squads of Spring Creek and Elko were third and fourth, respectively. Battle Mountain shot a 574.

White Pine’s Tyler Kane (81) and Colin Young (84) swept the top two individual spots. West Wendover’s Braden Price was third, Dylan Morley fourth and Luis Correa fifth.

Alan Rangel led the way for the Longhorns with a round of 93 and was the only Battle Mountain golfer to break 100. Austin Wallock finished at 102 and Brody Young shot a 105. Anthony Lewis (135), Jacob Turner (139) and Matt Narramore (147) rounded out the scores.

“We have a lot of inexperience still at these tournaments,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “Anthony and Matt did well considering they just started golfing three weeks ago. We have a lot of work to do but the guys seem like they are willing to put in the time to improve and they all have good attitudes.”

Battle Mountain is back on the course today (Wednesday) in West Wendover.
