Battle Mountain junior high wrestlers continue to pin down competition

Shorthorns travel to Winnemucca on Saturday

As the junior high school wrestling season kicks into high gear, the Battle Mountain wrestlers keep stepping on the gas as they continue to gain momentum.

Fernley was the setting for the latest battle, as 10 teams met up last Saturday in round two of the Tah-Neva League tournaments.

“This tournament is another stepping stone for our kids as they work towards the league title,” said coach Mitch Domagala. “We had the opportunity to see a few more league teams this week.”

Leading the way for Battle Mountain was Jose Guizar and Kobe Lake who both finished in first place on the day.

Stone Whitlock, Vincent Rosas, Hunter Natoli, Terrence Fetterly, Brice Domagala and Lyle Whitten came home in second place. Lillie Haney, Declan McClary, Daniel Henslee, Zach Duggan, Joey Huhta, Michael Malone, Jordan Gonzalez, Thomas Amezcua and Owen Oakes captured third place.

Sean Scherer, Anthony Silva, Austin Behrman, Hunter Andersen, Zyelynn Putt and Tyler Rochester ended the day in fourth place.

Hafen Smith, Braxton Nield, Rueben Fotsch, Scott Wall, Asher Bundrock, Nolan Chopp, Emilio Morfin and Michael Lovelace all wrestled tough on the day as well.

“We have a really good group of kids this year,” Domagala said. “They are working hard and I think they all have a good chance of qualifying for the championship tournament at the end of the year.”

The Shorthorns wrestle on Saturday in Winnemucca with the top four qualifiers advancing to the Tah-Neva League Championships the following week.

Action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Winnemucca Junior High School.
