Gary Wayne Ruby age 70 of Winnemucca, NV passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Renown South Meadows Hospital in Reno, NV.
Gary was born on November 10, 1945 in Cumberland, MD to Stanley & Nellie Ruby and in 1958 the family moved to Baltimore, MD. Gary joined the U.S. Navy in 1964. While in the Navy he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan where he met his wife Tomoko. They were married in San Diego, CA on December 15, 1973. Gary & Tomo made their first home in Upper Marlboro, MD where he worked as a cabinet maker. In 1980 they moved to Port Orchard, WA where Gary worked as a crane operator at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. In 1997 Gary & Tomo moved back to Maryland to care for his ailing mother in her last years of life. They eventually settled in Winnemucca, NV in 2003 to be near their grandchildren, which he adored.
Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tomoko Ruby, daughter and son in law Jennifer & Robert VanBuren, son Wayne Ruby, grandchildren Dillon, Mikaela, and Justin VanBuren, all of Winnemucca, NV. Brother and sister in law Francis & Carol Ruby of Wasilla, AK, sister in law Toshie Hoffer of San Diego, CA, aunt Dorothy Watrous of Apple Valley, CA, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley & Nellie Ruby and brother Blaine Ruby.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Renown South Meadows Hospital who helped take care of & make his last hours peaceful.
