Obituary:Christopher McGuire

Christopher McGuire was born on July 12, 1945 in Annapolis, Maryland. He grew up in Fairmont, West Virginia. Chris passed away on January 13, 2016 at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada from cancer.

Chris always loved the outdoors and had fond memories of the times he spent along the waters and in the woods of beautiful West Virginia.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1962 and spent 25 years as an anti-submarine warfare air crewman in various aircraft including the P-5 Marlin Martin Seaplane, the P-2V Neptune, and various versions of the P-3 Orion aircraft. Chris retired from military service in May of 1987.

After military service Chris decided to try his hand at dredge mining on the Klamath River in Northern California, designing his own dredge and living along the Klamath near Happy Camp. He moved to Winnemucca, Nevada in 1993 and went to work as a Training Specialist for Getchell Gold Inc. In 1999 Chris began another venture. He used his life-long interest in minerals to form Xtal Explore and Wired-Artist-Jewelry in 2000 to mine and acquire minerals for use in his lapidary and jewelry making business.

Chris researched the art of wire-wrapping jewelry and taught himself to create beautiful works of art to showcase the materials he worked on in his lapidary shop. Along the way he was influenced by and shared his knowledge with various people he met involved in rockhounding, mining, and mineral collecting. He loved to show his collection to friends and visitors. Whatever Chris decided to do he put his mind and heart into.

He was a member of Christlife Family Ministries in Winnemucca and was baptized in August 2013. He was grateful to have found the Lord and enjoyed fellowship with his Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother Anita of Fairmont, West Virginia and his daughter Anna McGuire. Chris is survived by his wife Sarah McGuire of Winnemucca, his daughter Christina McGuire and grandson Gabriel McGuire of San Jose, California, and his brother Donald Freeman of Norfolk, Virginia.

There will be a Church service and fellowship for Chris on March 27, 2016 at 4 pm at 5130 Palisade Drive in Winnemucca. Chris was cremated and will be interned at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada, where there will be a ceremony on March 28, 2016 at 11 am.
