Battle Mountain’s Emma Lemaire took part in the first performance of barrel racing on Sunday night at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Lebanon, Tenn.
She finished 16th in a time of 17.575 seconds. Anna Brisbane won the performance in a time of 16.342. Lemaire will make her second run in barrel racing on Saturday morning.
On Monday night, Lemaire and Paradise Valley’s Cade Bell made their first run in ribbon roping. Their second performance is set for Friday morning.
Lemaire and Lexi Carter took part in the Monday night performance of team roping.
The duo were ninth with a time of 26.47. After three performances, they were 26th overall. Trevor Boartight and Jackson Green won the Monday night performance with a time of 6.67.
The second performance for the duo is set for Friday morning.
Lemaire took part in pole bending on Tuesday night and results were not available at press time. Her second performance in that event is Thursday morning.
The final go-around is set for Saturday night.
Bell finished third in the first performance of the boys breakaway roping. Bell stopped the clock in the breakaway roping at 2.87 seconds. Joey Denney of Carrollton, Ga., won the performance at 2.43. Zane White of Scotts Hill, Tenn., was second at 2.67. Bell makes his second run in breakaway roping on Saturday.
Bell be one of the more busier athletes at the rodeo, competing in six events. Bell made his first run in team roping on Monday morning with teammate Jayden Jensen.
The second performance of team roping is Friday night.
Bell performs in chute dogging on Tuesday morning and Thursday night, saddle bronc on Tuesday night and Thursday morning and he will take part in boys goat tying in two performances on Wednesday.
Created in 2004, the NHSRA junior high division was established to bring the excitement of the sport to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders and to serve as a feeder system into the high school ranks of the association.
Today, the 48 states and provinces that belong to the NHSRA also produce a junior high division as well, with over 2,500 members in total now competing.
Junior high division students compete in a variety of events, including barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping, tie-down roping, chute dogging, team roping, ribbon roping, bull riding, bareback steer riding and saddle bronc steer riding.
