Raymond (Ray) Salisbury passed away at Renown Hospital, Reno Nevada on May 17th, 2016 at the age of 80.
Ray is lovingly remembered by his brother David Salisbury and Sister Alta Dunn. His son Tony Salisbury, Step-Son John Stokes , Grandchildren Rebecca Huber, Joshua Salisbury, Jonathan Salisbury, Amanda Martin, and Great-grandchildren Austin, Kassidy, Greg, and Aubriauna
Ray was born in Wray Colorado on June 23rd, 1935. He received his GED from the state of Idaho. Ray served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. After leaving the Navy Ray worked as a mechanic, welder, and ranch hand in several places until he settled down in Austin, NV and opened up his own shop “Rays Automotive and Welding”.
Ray was very active in his community serving on various committees and boards such as the Austin Park Board, Austin Airport Advisory Board, Groves Lake Crest Trail planning Committee, Lander County Sewer and Water Board, Convention and Tourism Board, the Lander County Public lands use Advisory Board in which he was instrumental in pushing forward the fencing ofthe Highway right of ways in Lander County, and he helped restart the Austin Historical Society and served as President for many years. Ray also served as a volunteer Fireman and EMT for Austin.
Ray was an active member of several groups such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars in which he was a Life Member at Post 9065 and served as the Post Commander for several years and received a “Distinguished Service Citation”. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 45 and served as Sergeant of Arms. Ray was a Life member of the NRA and as a Republican helped to support the Republican National Committee for which he received a letter of thanks from former President George Bush.
Ray enjoyed many hobbies such as rock hounding, hunting, shooting pool, collecting antiques and leather craft. He also enjoyed making things with his hands.
The funeral service will be held at Austin Baptist Church, 234 Water St., Austin NV on June 11th at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Charlie Vaughn officiating. Burial to follow at Austin Cemetery at 2:30 and a dinner will be provided by the Austin Baptist Church at 3:00.
