Obituary: James Phillip Seward

8-3-58 – 7-4-16 (57)

Born and raised in Winnemucca, NV, Jimmy passed away on July 4th at Renown Medical Center with family by his side & in their hearts. He left us with his wings in full flight, his body & soul refreshed & no pain, to join God, his sis Pam & bro “santa man” Mike.

Growing up Jimmy was a Cub Scout (Pack 75), enjoyed collecting aluminum cans & treasures, building forts, fishing/camping, playing pool, hanging out with friends and taking family trips. He was a 1976 graduate of Lowry High School & was active in Honor Society, a chief officer in Demolay, he lettered in wrestling & baseball, he was in art club, wrote a book “Teresa and the Gobbly Goopers” for his niece Christina & had an awesome circle of friends.

After high school Jimmy was accepted into & served our country in the United States Coast Guard. He was stationed at Humboldt Bay California & Loran Station Kure Island in the Midway Islands of the U.S.A.

During his years of service he received a letter of appreciation, certificate of good conduct award & the Coast Guard Meritorius unit commendation. He was honorably discharged in Sept. 1982.

Jimmy remained in the Humboldt Bay area to work and attend classes at the college of the Redwoods. He met Jessica (Jessie) Anderson and later moved back to Winnemucca where they were married and made their home.

In 1983 they were blessed with their “handsome debel” son Jason. He and Jessie remained faithful friends/parents until his passing.

Jimmy started in the mining industry in the early 90’s starting with Gold Fields where he had a humorously close group of friends & co workers who referred to themselves as the “hosers.” He continued to take classes through U.N.R. during this time. After 20 plus years he ended his career in mining at the Florida Canyon Mine due to poor health.

Jimbo (as named by his close friends) shared many good times & some sad times with friends and family. He had deep feelings for those he knew & a charisma about him that both young and old alike could fall into conversation & friendship with ease.

He loved the games of football/basketball & was an avid fan of the 49ers & Denver Broncos/Nuggets which he cheered on all seasons long with his son & mom. He played hours of cards (pitch) with his dad, keeping each other in check. He enjoyed train & road trips with his c-ster.

His family would like to give a warm thank you to all who asked about him & kept him in their thoughts & prayers. To Butch, Sue, Bob, Scott & Boyd who blessed him with visits and conversations he so appreciated. Jimbo’s hear captured all that life brought his way.

He didn’t know a stranger, his smile infectious, his love deeper than any ocean he worked. If he knew you, you can be sure you were not forgotten. He kept you in that heart of his & when his heart beat one last time he wrapped it up & took you home with him.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his sister Pamela (Thompson) de Vilbiss, brother Mike Thompson, stepfather Courtney Keith & dear friend Earl Horton.

He is survived by his father James Seward Sr., mother Mary Jane Keith, son Jason Seward, sister Betty (Seward) Roeder (Ken), sister in law Clarice Thompson, nephews Jacob Roeder (Melinda), Travis Thompson (Grace), Carl Roeder, great nephews Steven, James and Lucas; nieces Christina Johnson & Haley Ledesma (Brandon); great nieces Kylie (Gary), Kayla, Jacey, Natalie, Ashley & Autumn.

In honoring his request no services will be held. In memory of Jimbo, take your loved ones and wrap them in your heart forever!
