What gives with pool fees?

Editor,

Well was I surprised when we returned to the pool after the holidays! I knew the rate was going to change, it’s now under the boys and girls club... but WOW. I am a senior who comes to town three times a week to take care of business, and my exercise is walking or lap swimming at the pool on those days. As a senior, I would purchase a yearly pass (cheaper) for $170. They no longer have senior rates; everyone pays $75 for 30 swims. Let’s do some math. I come to swim three times a week. That’s every 2 1/2 months I would be forking out another $75, which is around $360 a year. Don’t you think that is quite a jump in rates? Seniors who live in town come five times a week, and will be paying $75 every 6 weeks. Come on give us a break! That’s just totally uncalled for. If you look who is at the pool any given day, it is 2/3 seniors. It’s the best, easy-on-the-joints exercise, all year round. Winnemucca has always been so thoughtful about us folks on limited incomes. What gives?
