Beverly Jean Calder passed away peacefully on January 31, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, Nevada. She was 85.
Beverly was born in Lovelock, Nevada on November 27, 1930 to Hybert and Irene Neal. She was raised in Winnemucca and was the middle of three daughters. She was a graduate of Humboldt County High School, class of 1949.
She married James Alexander Calder and they raised three children; Bonnie, Robbyn and Jimmy. Early in their marriage Beverly was a stay at home wife and mother and followed her husband, with their three children, to UNR and then on to dental school in Chicago, Illinois. She would always remember what an adjustment it was to come from Winnemucca to the big city of Chicago. We would always laugh when she would be in a city and put on her Chicago walk. For those who know about big cities that walk is almost a run.
After graduation they went to Elk Grove, California where Jim was an officer in the United States Air Force until 1962. She really enjoyed their time there and often reminisced about the fun they had fishing on the delta and all the beautiful fruits, nuts and vegetables found in the fertile area surrounding their home.
The family moved back to Winnemucca so Jim could join his father, Dr. Wallace Calder, in his dental practice until Docs retirement. Then they moved the practice to town where Beverly was the office manager until their retirement in 2000.
Beverly and Jim loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful vacations together with family and friends. They also enjoyed boating, water skiing, fishing and hunting. She loved to play the piano, cook, sew and crochet. Her family has many beautiful pieces that she loving made for them. Beverly’s cooking was famous among her family and friends. Her fried chicken, chili and Caribou stew were a few of their favorites.
Survivors include her husband Dr. James A. Calder, daughter and spouse, Bonnie (Ron) Hilbish, and her sister Adrienne Couch of Winnemucca, Nevada. Seven grandchildren and spouse and fiancees, Travis (Lisa) Hilbish, Matthew (Mandy Chaffin), Tovi Hilbish, Sean (Sharon) Petty, Shannon (Craig Helber) Petty, Meganne Cone, and Abby Cone. Seven great grandchildren Kylie, Keira and Kepa Hilbish, Tiffany and Brittney Petty, Connor Petty, and Israel-Diaz Cone, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceeded in death by her mother and father Hybert and Irene Neal, sister Marilyn Nocciolo, son James Neal Calder, and daughter Robbyn Doreen Cone.
The family would like to thank Dr. Perkinson and his staff, the Genesis nurses and staff, Winnemucca Hospice, Angie’s Angels, the HGH emergency responders and hospital staff as well as the doctors, nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital intensive care and palliative care units, and Affinity funeral services.
