Obituary: George Penola

1-16-1942 to 12-26-2016

George Penola was born in Eureka, Nevada on January 16, 1942 to Hattie Allison. George Penola left us on December 26, 2016. He was preceded in death by his mother Hattie Allison Schaeffer, stepfather Floyd Schaeffer, wife Edna Penola, brothers Ray Penola, Aldeen Penola, and Bill Schaeffer.

George is survived by his daughter Angel Penola-Edgar (Shane), stepsons Wayne Testolin (Barbara), Gene Testolin (Kathy), stepdaughters Dorothy Stauffer and Nancy Ebert (Tom), eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He grew up in Eureka and Smokey Valley, Nevada working as a wrangler and chasing mustangs. He married the love of his life, Edna, on August 8, 1965. He worked construction and hauled hay with Edna always by his side. George, Edna and Angel moved to Elko in 1968 and was there until early 1970 when he moved his family to Battle Mountain and bought his own truck and started hauling one for Tom Norris.

It wasn’t long before he had his own trucking company and he became Penola Trucking. He had 14 trucks and other construction equipment and he hauled ore around Battle Mountain and worked on roads to mine sites. His wife kept close track of him and the books.

He loved to hunt and fish and loved to share his memories with anyone that would listen. He started hunting sheep in 1983 and he completed two grand slams. He also owned two ranches at different times. When he sold the trucking business, he moved to Grass Valley and lived at the Baumann Ranch. They loved it there.

Finally they moved back to Battle Mountain and settled down to retirement and loved to visit with anyone who would stop by. He had many visitors. After Edna passed, he moved to South Fork and lived quietly tinkering with his equipment. He will be missed…. In lieu of flowers make a donation to the charity of your choice.
