As of right now, the Lowry High School girls basketball team is in second place in the Northern 3A. If the Lady Bucks were a member of the Northern 4A, they would be in first place.

Lowry (2-1 Northern 3A, 7-1 overall) collected its third win over a large classification school from the Reno/Sparks area, with a 57-37 win at North Valleys on Monday afternoon.

“We had a tough time getting going, and really didn’t play well until the fourth quarter,” said LHS coach Chelsea Cabatbat. “Things started to click for us in the fourth quarter. I thought Brooklyn (Waller) had a nice game for us. She made some key baskets and got us going on defense.”

Lowry held a slight 10-9 lead after eight minutes of action, but netted just six points in the second quarter. The Panthers doubled up the Lady Bucks 12-6, to go into halftime with a 21-16 advantage.

Lowry awoke in the third quarter with a 13-4 run to lead by four points and never trailed again. The Lady Bucks outscored the Panthers 28-12 in the final eight minutes to claim their fourth consecutive victory.

Alyssa Kuskie led all scorers with 15 points — all on 3-point field goals. Waller had a season-high 14 points to go with seven rebounds, five steals and one assist. Sydney Connors added nine points, four assists and three steals.

Kenadee Jeppsen and Amaya Herrera each had four points, Aimee Brandon three and Brooklyn Backus two. Jeppsen finished with a team-high nine rebounds and the senior added four steals and three assists.

Lowry will have little time to celebrate Christmas, traveling to Reno on Monday for the Varsity Elite Tournament.

The Lady Bucks are scheduled to play Hug on Monday at 11 a.m. and Pittsburg, Calif., at 2:30 p.m.

Games on Tuesday and Wednesday will be determined by results in pool play.
