The McDermitt High School girls basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to knock off Crane 48-41 on Friday, Dec. 16, in Crane, Ore. It was the second win of the year for the Lady Bulldogs over the Mustangs.
In a back-and-forth battle throughout the contest, Crane opened up a 12-8 lead after a quarter of play. However, McDermitt responded with a 20-11 run in the second quarter to take a 28-23 advantage into halftime.
The tables turned once again at the start of the second half, as the Mustangs doubled up the Lady Bulldogs 14-7 in the third quarter to go back in front 37-35.
McDermitt tightened up its defense in the final eight minutes and held the Mustangs to just four points. The Lady Bulldogs completed the comeback with a 13-4 run in the fourth quarter to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Senior Krissy Long finished with a double-double, that included 19 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore Precious Masters also had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. In addition, Masters had five assists and five steals.
Megan Sam netted nine points of 4-of-7 shooting, and the senior added five rebounds, an assists and a steal. Jasmine Northrup had four points and seven rebounds and Morissa Bitt finished with three points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
McDermitt is back in action on Friday when it hosts Rimrock, Idaho.
The Lady Bulldogs begin defense of their Eastern 1A title on Friday, Jan. 6, in Wells at 6 p.m. McDermitt travels to Jackpot on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 2:30 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs return to McDermitt to host Carlin on Friday, Jan. 13, and Owyhee on Saturday, Jan. 14.
McDermitt beat Owyhee for the Northern 1A Regional Championship, but the Braves came back to capture the state championship a week later in Reno.
Owyhee, McDermitt, Eureka and Wells figure to be the top teams in the Eastern 1A this season.
