McDermitt boys drop a pair of games

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team dropped a pair of games in its final contest before Christmas break.

The Bulldogs were in Pyramid Lake on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and lost 59-52 to Pyramid Lake in a non-conference match-up.

In a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter, the Lakers grabbed a two-point advantage at 16-14. The Lakers continued to build their lead in the second quarter, with a 21-point outburst to stay in front 37-32 at the break. The margin grew to double figures at the start of the fourth quarter, as Pyramid Lake outscored McDermitt 15-10 in the third period.

The Bulldogs made a small run in the final eight minutes, but could not overcome the deficit.

Troy McKee had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Jagger Hinkey added seven points and two rebounds. Duane Horse scored six points and Cauy Crutcher had three. Diego Navarro added four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Horse and Crutcher grabbed eight and seven rebounds, respectively.



McDermitt drops road game to Crane

McDermitt made its way to Crane, Ore., last Friday and appeared set to pick up its second win of the season over Crane. However, the Mustangs rallied for a 53-42 win.

The Bulldogs held a slight two-point lead after eight minutes of play and continued top pull away to a 23-16 lead at halftime. The Mustangs erased the gap with a 17-12 run in the third quarter to tie the game. Crane completed the comeback with a 20-9 run in the fourth quarter.

Crutcher led McDermitt with 19 points to go with five steals, four assists and four rebounds. McKee chipped in 10 points and three rebounds and Navarro had six points. Edgar Reyes finished with three points and Ben Draunidalo and Horse had two points apiece.

McDermitt (6-6) is off until Friday, Dec. 30, when it hosts Rimrock, Idaho.
