Winnemucca Animal Rescue (WAR) will hold an adoption event on Dec. 17 at the new home for Rose Seed & Supply.
The rescue currently has over 50 cats and kittens in about 10 foster homes. “We kind of take in cats at this point because there’s nowhere else for them to go,” Kenison said. However, she occasionally helps to re-home dogs and works with the Winnemucca Animal Shelter.
According to WAR’s representative Christina Kenison, it can be difficult to find foster homes, and the rescue currently does not have a facility to house rescued animals. “Everything is volunteer,” she said, “We can’t do enough of what is needed out here. We have to turn people away pretty much all the time because the need is so great.”
Rose Seed and Supply has moved to 720 E 4th Street, the former home of the Frugal Flamingo. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At the event, WAR will accept a suggested donation of $20 per adopted animal. They would also encourage donations of kitty litter, food, kitten formula, bedding and blankets or funds to help run the rescue.
The rescue takes particular care to accept injured animals. Veterinary costs can get expensive very quickly, but the rescue does its best to care for each animal sent to them. “We’ve been able to save quite a few. We can’t, obviously, save them all. Some of them are too injured,” she said.
The rescue is always open to volunteers. This can include fostering a cat or kitten, or working in the office or helping to raise funds.
The event will also include a bake sale, raffle prizes, pet pictures with Santa and hot cocoa.
