The seven-game road trip for the Lowry High School boys basketball team continued this past Saturday afternoon at Fernley High School for a Northern 3A contest.
After falling behind 5-0 to start the game, Lowry tied Fernley six different times in the first half, before the Vaqueros went on to win 78-55. The loss dropped the Buckaroos to 0-2 in the Northern 3A and 0-6 overall.
Lowry used two 3-point field goals from Jed Teichert and Dorsey Naveran and five points from freshman Kobe Stoker to finish the first quarter on a 12-7 run and tie the game at 12.
The contest was tied with just a couple minutes left in the first half, when Fernley finished the second quarter on a 10-0 run to go in front 37-27 at halftime.
The Vaqueros strong shooting night continued into the second half, as the Vaqueros began to pull away with a 21-12 run to lead 58-39. Lowry could not cut the deficit below double figures as Fernley maintained its double-digit advantage.
Stoker continued his strong start in his first varsity year with 16 points. Teichert added 10 points, while Naveran, a sophomore, contributed nine. Fellow sophomore Brendan Domire had seven points, Darian Solis contributed five and Dominic Solis and Dylan Kalkoske had three points apiece.
Lowry closed out its seven-game road trip to start the season on Tuesday at Spring Creek. Results were not available at press time. The Buckaroos make their home debut next Tuesday against Reed at 6 p.m.
