The Lowry High School wrestling team got off a hot start with a 6-1 dual record at the Fallon Duals last weekend at Churchill County High School.
The Buckaroos defeated Bishop Manogue 63-16, Elko 39-33, Churchill County 45-28, Wooster 64-18, Douglas 55-24 and Carson 39-36. Churchill County is the defending 3A state champion and Carson ended Lowry’s 109-match dual streak in the tournament last year.
Lowry’s lone loss was 79-0 to Spanish Springs. The Cougars figure to be one of the top teams in the 4A this year and battle for the state championship.
Isaiah Blanco, Taylor Corak and Bryan Day each went 6-1 over the two days. Blanco and Corak are freshmen. Cade Billingsley and Zack Peters each collected five wins.
Lowry will be at home Thursday to host duals at the Winnemucca Event Center. The Cody Louk Invitational takes place on Friday and Saturday, also at the Winnemucca Event Center. A number of teams will be in Northern Nevada for the two-day tournament.
