The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity football team hosted the Elko JV last Thursday night at Tim Knight Field to open the 2016 season. After Elko scored on its opening drive, Battle Mountain had an opportunity to tie or take the lead on its next drive but turned the ball over yards from the end zone. The Indians scored a touchdown shortly afterward and went on to win the game 55-0. The Longhorns are off this week, and travel to Wendell, Idaho, on Sept. 9. The varsity football team makes the trip to Las Vegas on Friday to The Meadows at 7 p.m.
