Battle Mountain boys soccer teams start with three wins

Longhorns travel to Ely this weekend

The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer team started out its season in style with three wins in three games at the Spring Creek Jamboree last weekend.

The Longhorns knocked off the host Spring Creek JV 6-0 on Friday and came back later in the day to beat the Lowry JV 7-2. Battle Mountain closed out the weekend with a 4-1 victory over White Pine on Saturday morning.

Against Spring Creek, Saul Miramontes kicked off the scoring in the fourth minute. That would be the first of three goals in the game for the senior. In addition, he scored in the 41st and 56th minutes.

Junior Eddie Morfin added two goals in the 34th and 55th minute and sophomore Roberto Esparaza scored in the 29th minute. Esparaza also had an assist.

In the win over the Lowry JV, five different players scored for Battle Mountain. David Chavez scored twice, three minutes apart in the 25th and 28th minutes. Miramontes added two goals in the 51st and 58th minute.

Sergio Diaz, Danny Diaz and Morfin each scored one goal. Diaz also had an assist.

Battle Mountain trailed 1-0 at halftime, but scored four goals in a 13-minute span to take control of the game. Danny Diaz tied the game in the 41st minute and Esparaza provided the winning goal in the 52nd minute. Chavez and Morfin putt he game out of reach with goals in the 54th and 56th minutes.

Battle Mountain will look to keep its perfect record in tact with a road trip this weekend to Ely for the White Pine Invitational.
