Entries now being accepted for Labor Day Parade

WINNEMUCCA, Nev.— This area's largest parade will celebrate its down-home heritage Labor Day weekend with the theme “Red, White and Blue: This Fair’s for You.”

Ag 3 Director Kim Petersen said entrants may interpret the theme as they see fit. “This will be a fun theme and a fun way for participants to celebrate the annual Tri-County Fair & Stampede.”

The Labor Day Parade — the event that officially kicks off each year’s Tri-County Fair & Stampede — has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept.3 in Winnemucca.

Parade entries in a dozen different categories are now being accepted through 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29.

Once again, the parade will be produced by the Northern Nevada ATV Association; the longtime event is sponsored by the Agricultural District No. 3.

The annual event will begin at the Model T Resort Casino. It will come to rest in the parking lot at the Winnemucca Events Complex. The parade will include the usual array of floats, mounts, marchers, clowns and politicians.

Parade awards and prize money will be awarded to winners of the Most Original and One Moccasin entries. Plaques and prize money will be awarded to first place winners in a dozen other categories, with rosettes going to second- and third-place winners.

Those categories include Hitch-Drawn Vehicles, Commercial, Non-Commercial, Novelty Group, Best Ethnic, Political, 12 Years and Under, Best Musical, Mounted Group, Walking Group, Mounted Individual and Autos of the Past.

Entry forms are available for download at www.LaborDayFair.com or at the Winnemucca Convention Center.
