The Nevada Dept. of Taxation charges sales tax on home medical equipment. This adds to the cost of several life-saving devices that people cannot afford and affects very sick children who need equipment like infant apnea monitors.

This unit prevents high-risk babies from dying of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Thirty-three percent of infants needing this equipment are Hispanic. But SIDS is a killer of anyone who can't afford the machine and paying the sales tax just makes things worse. Ten percent of all Nevada children or 68,000 kids have no health insurance at all.

A week before the Tax Commission met, a petition signed by 106,000 Nevadans was turned in to stop sales tax on this vital equipment. This obviously meant nothing to the Nevada Tax Commission.

In November, I know that Nevadans will show that the public cares, even if the Commission doesn't, when we vote YES on Question #4, “The Medical Patient Tax Relief Act.”
