WINNEMUCCA — Local authorities and the Drug Enforcement Administration will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day at sites throughout the state Saturday.
In Winnemucca, people can take their expired and unwanted prescription medications to Ridley’s Market, located at 1125 W. Winnemucca Boulevard, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30.
They will be collected by representatives from the Winnemucca Police Department and HGH EMS Rescue, and turned over to DEA officials next week for destruction.
There will be no questions asked, and the service is free and anonymous.
Needles and other sharp objects, as well as liquids, will not be accepted; only pills and other solids, like patches, can be brought to the collection site.
Please look for the HGH EMS Rescue ambulance, which will be parked in front of the store.
Additionally, the Winnemucca Police Department accepts expired and unwanted medications Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at its 500 E. Winnemucca Blvd. location.
The DEA encourages citizens to prevent pill abuse or theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.
Since the DEA’s first event in September 2010, the public has surrendered over 3.4 million pounds of pills nationally.
