The Battle Mountain High School baseball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a sweep of Silver Stage last week at home. The Longhorns won the opening game of the series 20-4 on Wednesday, April 20. The Nighthawks came back to Battle Mountain on Saturday and the Longhorns beat the Nighthawks 6-1 and 4-0. Battle Mountain improved to 8-4 in the Division III North and have clinched a playoff berth in the regional tournament in May. Pershing County and Yerington are tied for the top spot in the league at 12-0. Battle Mountain hosted Pershing County on Wednesday and results were not available at press time. The Longhorns travel to Lovelock on Saturday to close out the three-game series starting at 11 a.m.
