With its home course still under construction, the Battle Mountain High School boys golf team is continuing to improve despite limited practice time.
The Longhorns traveled to Ely last Friday for a tournament hosted by White Pine High School. Battle Mountain saw its score fall to 509 on the day.
Alan Rangel led the Longhorns with a round of 91. Austin Wallock and Brody Young each broke 100 and finished at 99. Noah Villunueva carded a 106, Alex Lopez a 114 and Jacob Turner rounded out the scores at 127.
“Our team score was lower this week than last week so that is an improvement,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “However, it is still not where we need to be if we are going to get back to the state tournament this year. The boys are working hard and getting better and as a coach I can’t ask for anything better than that.”
Battle Mountain travels to Wells on Thursday to play the nine-hole Chimney Creek Golf Course. The Longhorns close out the regular season on Thursday, May 5, in Spring Creek.
