Obituary: Larry D. Staley

Larry Dean Staley, 78, of Winnemucca passed away in Reno on April 6, 2016 after losing his battle with white lung.

Larry was born to Duane and Florence Staley on May 11, 1937 in Prairie, Iowa. He had resided in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and finally made his home in Winnemucca, NV.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Larry earned a Bachelor’s degree in Teaching and most recently worked in maintenance for Newmont Mining.

Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and all types of sports; he enjoyed watching football, wrestling, boxing, and deep sea fishing.

He is survived by his wife Joan Staley of Winnemucca, his sister Jane Nance of CA, daughters Amber Teal of Denver, CO, Anna Maria De Santiago of Flagstaff, AZ, Sharon Malehow of Tucson, AZ and sons Dean Staley and Tom Yocum both of Albuquerque, NM. Larry had eight grandchildren: Kelly Sham of Las Cruses, NM, Joannie of Pugrosa Spring, CO, Lisa Ann, Ashley, Morgan and Whitney of Tucson, AZ, Devin Yocum of Albuquerque, NM, and Joshua Malehow of NV. He also had nine great grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Duane and Florence Staley and his brother Bob Letterman.

The Staley family would like to thank Larry and Debbie Hall for all their help and care.

A memorial service will be held at Sonoma Funeral Home 47 West First St. Winnemucca on Wednesday April 20, 2016 at 2:00 pm.
