The ever-changing flow of high school sports in Nevada will see another one coming up this fall.

The NIAA Board of Control approved a plan last week at its annual meeting to combine the Northern 2A/3A soccer leagues for two seasons starting with the 2016-17 school year.

The 2A has been struggling to fill teams on a year-to-year basis. There are currently no teams in the Southern 2A.

Lowry will be part of a nine team league (A) that will consist of many of the current 3A schools.

The new league will consist of Churchill County, Elko, Sparks, South Tahoe, Spring Creek and Truckee. Incline and North Tahoe, current members of the 2A, will join the group.

The Highlanders and Lakers have been dominant in the 2A over the past few years.

The Pershing County girls will be in the second league (B). It will consist of eight girls teams and seven boys teams. Dayton and Fernley will move down to that league. They will be joined by Battle Mountain, West Wendover, White Pine, Yerington and Whittell. Sage Ridge will play as an independent.

It is possible teams can move around based on performance during the two years.

The postseason will feature eight teams. League A will likely get five playoff teams and League B will get three. Possible playoff scenarios could have A1 vs. A5, B2 vs. A3, B1 vs. B4 and A2 vs. B3.
