Battle Mountain golfers finish third in Round Mountain

Rangel, Wallock place in top five

The Battle Mountain High School boys golf team continues to show improvement.

The Longhorns turned in a third-place finish last Friday at Round Mountain Golf Course where Tonopah High School hosted. Battle Mountain shot a season-best 498 to finish in the middle of the pack in the six-team field.

Alan Rangel led Battle Mountain with a third-place finish where he shot a season-best 83. Austin Wallock climbed into the top five, with a round of 92. Brody Young was the third Longhorn golfer to break 100 on the day, as he carded a 99.

Noah Villanueva shot a 109 and Alex Lopez had the final kept score at 115. Jacob Turner rounded out the scores for Battle Mountain with a 135.

“We are slowly getting better and at least competing in these weekly matches,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “I am not sure how good the west part of the state is but we just need to keep working hard and use these weekly matches as experience builders so that when the one tournament of the year that matters (regional tournament at Edgewood) comes around we are playing our best golf of the year.”

Battle Mountain is back in action on Thursday in Jackpot.
