The Battle Mountain High School baseball team got back on the winning track, winning two of three games at North Tahoe last weekend.
The series did not start off well for the Longhorns, who dropped the opener 13-3 on Friday. After scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Lakers tacked on seven runs in the second inning to lead 9-0.
Battle Mountain jumped on the board in the fourth inning with a pair of runs and added a single run in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 10-3. North Tahoe ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs.
It was a different story on Saturday, as Battle Mountain’s offense awoke in picking up its first league wins of the season. The Longhorns were 0-4 in the Division III North prior to the wins.
Battle Mountain won the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday 13-8 and the night cap 21-7 to move into a possible playoff position in May.
Yerington and Pershing County are tied for first in the Division III North at 6-0.
After spending nearly a month on the road, Battle Mountain hosts West Wendover this weekend starting Friday at 4 p.m. The two schools play a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
