Lowry High School is looking for help in locating members of the last state championship football team of 1965.
The school will be sending them into the Hall of Fame on Thursday, Oct. 29, and they will be recognized as honorary captains going out to flip the coin prior to the game vs. Churchill County.
The 1965 squad went 6-0-1 on the season and 5-0 in the Northern A League.
Humboldt County opened the season with a 21-13 win over Elko. In the second week of the year, the Buckaroos played to a 7-7 tie against Fallon.
Humboldt County won its five league games by a combined score of 197-12, including victories over Stewart (25-0), Yerington (38-6), Whittell (63-0), Douglas (38-0) and Lovelock (33-6).
Humboldt County defeated Moapa Valley 22-6 for the A state championship. The title is the last one by Humboldt County/Lowry high schools.
Lowry played in the 1990 state title game against Truckee and the 1993 championship versus Moapa Valley, but lost both games.
Bob O’Connor was the head coach, Jim Salmi served as the assistant coach and Chris Callahan was the manager.
The team included Dick Peraldo, Ron Schoff, Jim Achabal, Chris Bengoa, Dave DeLong, Denny Heitman, Alex Flores, George Savage, David Jones, John McNinch, Cleto Bengoa, Jim DeArrieta, Don Peters, Donald Hawkins, Tom Fransway, Jeff Putnam, Ken Inzer, Bob Fettic, Gilbert Weikel, Robert Hockenberger, Larry Patterson and Chan Curry.
