Battle Mountain High School’s Homecoming week is not far off. The activities will begin on Monday, Oct. 5, and will end on Oct. 10.
The theme for the annual event is “The Legend of Longhorns” and is based on the four elements (earth, wind, fire and water) from the Avatar series.
There will be dress-up days each day at the high school and something going on most every evening.
On Monday, Oct. 5, the high school girls will team up to play an exciting game of powderpuff football starting at 7 p.m. at Tom Norris Football Field.
On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Lady Longhorns’ volleyball teams will be playing at home at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. against the Elko Indians.
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, you can catch some boys and girls soccer action at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Later on Oct. 7, the community is encouraged to come to the high school gym at 7 p.m. to catch some he-man volleyball action.
Thursday, Oct. 8, is packed with the vanities beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Battle Mountain Civic Center and following that will be the bonfire. At the vanities, the crowning of the queen and king will take place and all the classes, teachers, and alumni perform their skits, lip syncs and male dance routines. After that, everyone moves to the high school dirt parking lot for the bonfire.
Friday, Oct. 9, will be a very busy day. The parade will begin at noon from Etcheverry’s Foodtown and travel back to the junior high. The BMHS Student Council would like to invite anyone from the community who would like to participate in the parade to show up at Foodtown by 11:30 a.m. Oct. 9.
The football action starts at 4:30 p.m. for the junior varsity and the varsity game will begin at 7:30 p.m. Both the football teams will be taking on the Yerington Lions. Volleyball will also be playing the Lions at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., while the soccer teams take on North Tahoe at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Oct. 9.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, soccer matches will be starting at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. against Incline. The week will end with a semi-formal dance at the high school from 8:30 p.m. — 11:30 p.m., so come out and show your Longhorn spirit.
