Obituary: Linda Lavon Schrempp

Linda Lavon Schrempp, age 68, died on Sept. 12, 2015, from complications of her long fight with ovarian cancer. As the sun rose, she died in her home surrounded by loved ones.

Linda was born on July 26, 1947, in Provo, Utah, to her parents Blaine and Nina Greenhalgh. She was raised in Orem, Utah, as the second of 10 children. Linda finished high school and completed a few years of undergraduate study in Utah. She met and fell in love with Ronald Schrempp and they were married in 1968. Ron and Linda resided in South Dakota for almost eight years until they moved to Winnemucca in 1976.

Linda was co-owner and secretary of Ron’s Seed & Supply for 33 years; she made the city of Winnemucca blooming and beautiful with her retail nursery. Linda dutifully served as a Humboldt County School District Board Member for over 20 years and was very dedicated to improving the district for the students and teachers of this community.

She was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic parish. Linda took her jobs of mother and grandma very seriously; traveling to every sports game, concert and function of her children, grandchildren, nephews, and other family members. She loved to travel, sit on the beach with a margarita in Mexico, and spend time outdoors with her family whether it was gardening, four-wheeling, or boating. Her greatest joy was being with family and playing with her grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her husband Ronald Schrempp; sons Jeff (Annie) and Michael (Shasta) Schrempp, daughter Jackie Schrempp; grandchildren Dukota O’Reilly, Hadley and Gus Schrempp, Wade and Katelyn Rose, Jayla Schrempp, and baby Kate Schrempp on the way; brothers Max, Verl, and Val Greenhalgh; sisters MaryEllen McGinnis, Donna Barfield, and Ronda Price. Linda was preceded in death by her parents Nina and Blaine Greenhalgh; brother Kent Greenhalgh, sister Karolyn Cook, and grandson John Thomas Schrempp.

The family would like to thank Dr. Len Perkinson and his wife Tina Perkinson for their dedication and care of Linda, the DaVita Winnemucca staff, and all the support and prayers for Linda’s recovery over the years from her family and friends. Linda was selfless in giving of her love and charity to so many people and organizations in her community. Thank you Linda for all the love you instilled in all whom you have touched. You will be greatly missed by us all, we love you!

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12 p.m., followed by graveside service at the Winnemucca Cemetery.
